Ninjabetic Review

Officially jumping on the bandwagon!

I give you the year in review by listing the first sentence from the first post each month this year:

JanuarySick of Sick - So I have spent the whole holiday weekend sick.

FebruaryDrenched at Disneyland - I heard there is this big old hairy foosball game happening this Sunday but the Simmons family will be attending the happiest place on earth.

MarchMission Accomplished - I will let you know more about the weekend I had later this week.

AprilTuesday Trouble - As most nights for me, last night was a busy one.

MaySquinting - I’ve been in a dark place for a long while.

JuneWii Will Be Fit - I am going to get fit.

JulyNot Quite the Same - I am so excited about tomorrow.

AugustCorn Festival - Tomorrow is the La Habra Corn Festival Parade, and we are going to be there bright and early.

SeptemberS.I.C.K. – Stuffy.

OctoberGood News to Share - Despite all of the bad news about our economy right now I have some exciting news I have been looking forward to sharing for a while now.

NovemberChange (Not what you think) - Back in May I took some time away from the blogging world to try and get my head around some serious life changes that were potentially coming up.

DecemberA New Nickname? – I am not a turkey person.

This year was filled with lots of highs and lows, and that includes my blood sugars. I had a lot of valleys in 2008 and lots of mountain tops. I guess that is life and I am ready for more of those.

Thank you for staying with me throughout the year and rolling with the punches.

2009 is gonna kick ass, I can feel it.

You Tube Tuesday #101

When little ones are around Christmas is even more fun. Watching little kids open presents with their eyes wide open as they tear through the wrapping frantically looking for that special gift that was at the top of their list is awesome. I love buying that one awesome gift that you know they will cherish all year long.

BUT sometimes, gifts are pointless. Fun and laughter can occur where you least expect it.

This clip proves that the most expensive gift may not provide the most fun.

Enjoy.

Cheese Sticks and Ninja Kicks

Christmas was a very quiet one. Not typical for my family but a nice change. I did not leave my house on Friday or Saturday. Two days and I never saw the sun. That was both nice and maddening come Saturday night but I feel rested so it must have been a good idea.

Last night was a big night. I would hate to spoil it so check out the vlog post below. Then you gotta click the link.

Behind the Scenes of YTT #100

In case the clips I recreated for You Tube Tuesday #100 made no sense, I have posted all 5 video clips I chose below. I will also tell you a little bit about what happened shooting each scene.

#5 - Dramatic Prairie Dog

This clip cracked me up the first time I saw it. We knew it was all about the "zoom in" at the end. George (my son) was really good at perfecting the zoom on our lame camera and getting the shot exactly how I wanted it. I had to do it from the opposite angle then the actual DPD because of my ability to raise only my left eyebrow.

#4 - Ninja Cat

I knew we had cat ears somewhere but I could not locate them for whatever reason. I found this old Koala hat up in my closet from the Rose Parade years ago. I figured that would work and the hallway would be perfect. The problem was, do I crawl or creep? One take I crawled all the way which took forever and at the moment I am supposed to get up and run, I feel flat on my face. My son soon fell over laughing. It was hysterical.

#3 - Charlie Bit Me

This was the first clip that was going to require real editing. I knew I wanted to play both Charlie and Harry to add to the humor. The concern was lip synching. Gillian had a wise idea to put the clip on the TV in front me (yay Apple TV) so I could watch it. The best part was when I bit George's finger so hard that he did the "OUCH CHARLIE" scream for real!

#2 - Happy/Mad Baby

This clip, believe it or not, took the most takes. The problem? George. He would not stop laughing. I think it is because I watched the clip below at least 25 times before we shot just to get all the facial expressions down. It is a short one but there is a lot of stuff going on. George was laughing so hard at the end that I lost it. I left it in because I think it made it even funnier.

#1 - Menudo - "I Like to Dance"

I knew this would be my number 1. I have watched this 100 times and laugh every single time. I knew the dance from when I was a kid so that was easy. In fact, I over danced the "me gusta bailar" part just to make a point of how bad the dance is. Just like "Happy/Mad Baby" I watched the beginning of this clip over and over to get the head turns, the facial expressions and the overall cheesiness down. I am most proud of this one!

P.S. If you want to dress like Johnny from Menudo, go to your local Thrift Store. They may have those sweet pants I found.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

You Tube Tuesday #100 - SPECIAL EDITION!

For the past 99 weeks I featured different video clips on this blog.

This being the 100th week I had to do something different.

Something over the top.

Something special.

Enjoy.

Monday. Mourning.

“Go somewhere you can hear me.” My sister’s voice sounded like she had been crying.

I squeezed out the one thing I had to know, “Is mom okay?”

“Yeah, she’s fine.”

I rushed out from the crowded room at the restaurant we went to on Saturday night to celebrate Jasmine’s finish of school. We had about 35 people there to celebrate including my two other sisters.

When I finally got outside, my sister told me that my Aunt had died a few hours before which was a complete shock to everyone. I went back inside, pulled my sisters out of the celebration and told them both.

I am thankful that my family is so close. We are always able to be there for each other, even if they live in a different state.

I would appreciate any thoughts and prayers for my family. My Uncle and cousins (and their children) are all taking this very hard. I worry about all of them and would greatly appreciate that.

Last night we had our annual Blue Christmas service. I wish we did not have to have a service for those who are hurting because it is so sad, but life can hurt. And hurt big sometimes.

I heard many tears and produced many myself. My kids took the death of their great aunt pretty hard. They were close to her and see that their cousins lost their grandma. I think that is what makes it hard for them. They can relate to that and hurt for those kids.

Both of my kids spent some time with our pastor praying for the family. Both went on their own accord and by themselves. I am so thankful that they have hope and they trust God to help through difficult stuff without Jasmine or I pushing them. I love that they have faith and am thankful beyond belief for that.

We stayed up late last night trying to find stuff to laugh about and hugging each other a lot.

This post is a little spacey but that is because I too am spacey right now. This weekend had lots of ups and downs and I am recovering, slowly. I hardly slept last night. Thinking. Crying. Singing.

I kept singing the chorus of a song we sang at the Blue Christmas service.

“Watch O Lord with all those awake this night. Watch O Lord with all those who weep. Give your angels and saints charge over all who sleep.”

The Company Holiday Party

Last night was our annual company holiday shindig and as many of you know, I am on the Entertainment Committee. And as many of you may not know, I work at a place that rivals the T.V. show "The Office."

Anhow, our budget was slashed this year which is understandable. We decided to have a gift exchange at our office and then head over to "300" which is about the coolest bowling I have ever been to.
I was in charge of coming up with the teams, team names, and team shirts. I thought they came out pretty good.
Check them out!
I first surfed the internet to find cool names.

I found clip art and matched up some cool fonts and went for it!

I tried to come up with designs that were all different in style.

I was captain of The Bowling Stones!

Check out how intense I am with my Lemon Drop Ball! Woot!

It was a great night. After the party I headed off to see Gillian sing at her school and then we jetted over to George's school to see his band concert! It was a busy night but a great one.

You Tube Tuesday #99

This poor little dog is getting bullied by this cat. If any of you have siblings, did you ever do this to them or have this done to you?

That is what cracks me up about cats. They are brats! Well, most of them are.

Enjoy.

The Friday Vlog

I am not a fan (yet) of themed Christmas trees. I like having ornaments from all over the place. It always brings up great memories looking at old silly ornaments so we are sticking with the "mish mosh" tree for now.

Oh and a few Blogging Buddies get a shout out on this vlog!

Enjoy.

Late and Honored.

So, it’s Thursday and I guess I failed to mention on Monday (like I was supposed to) that this week yours truly is the featured blogger on The Diabetes O.C. website. I have posted twice so far and plan on posting again before the week is up.

The Diabetes O.C. website is a great place to locate many different Diabetes blogs out in the cyber world. What makes it great is the ability to find blogs via different categories. Not to mention all the new blogs listed. It is very cool.

The only bummer right now is that the comment section is not working for whatever reason.

Anyhow, I would love it if you headed over and read the two posts from this week. You can comment here if you like.

Thank you Gina for asking me to blog at the OC this week. I am honored.

Diabetes Outdoors

A while back I wrote about some amazing people I met on a retreat weekend and how they were starting their own non-profit organization.

Well I am pleased to announce that Diabetes Outdoors is here and is going to have its first event!

Diabetes Outdoors is a community organization that supports people living with diabetes by encouraging healthy lifestyles and building active communities, thereby enriching the quality of life and preventing related complications. That is how director Trevelyn Yahr describes this group.
You can view the flyer by clicking on the pictures below. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact the group using the number on the flyer. I know the website is under contruction but should be up soon.

I love this idea. A good time and some diabetes education. A great combination in a very cool package. So many think that because of diabetes they cannot go mountain climbing or hiking and that is just not true.

We can do all that stuff, we just have to be prepared and remember to have supplies that we may need.

Good luck Trevelyn on this hike! Hopefully I can make it to the next one.

It Was A Strange Morning

This morning was a weird one. I completely forgot that I had Diabetes or I should say, I was not thinking at all!

A Christmas Song - Ninja Style

We have had some rainy times over the Simmons home in the past few days. Plumbing, Electrical, and Car troubles to name a few. I am trying to keep up the holiday spirit the only way I know how.

I wrote my own version of a Christmas Song - Enjoy.

Christmas is coming and George is getting fat,
Did you hear that Santa’s Gmail has just been cyber hacked?
If you know of a good plumber then please send him my way,
If you don’t and come to visit, then please don’t stay.

Christmas is coming, the lights are on the tree,
You could see them so clearly with some electricity,
If you know an electrician, then please give him my name,
Cause it seems the house we moved to is super effing lame.

Christmas is coming, my face a constant frown,
And my wife’s flipping Kia just had to break down,
If you know a good mechanic, then please send him to me,
But I need one that can fix it, and do it all for free.

Christmas is coming, thank God for all my friends,
And who cares if I never seem to make dividends,
Sure things may be crappy, but I say “what the heck,”
Your comments, tweets, and emails help keep me in check.
Ahh, now I feel better.

You Tube Tuesday #97

This clip holds a valuable lesson for parents everywhere.

Your kids may not like what you do.

The saddest part is the quiet "no more" uttered at the very end. Poor kid.

Still I giggle a little.

A New Nickname?

I am not a turkey person.

Sure the bacon wrapped turkey was awesome but I was more excited about the bacon then I was the bird. Turkey is like a big old chicken which also is not a fave of mine. So thanksgiving, for me, is all about the sides.

With the exception of green beans, my sides included a cornucopia of carb filled goodness.

Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Corn
Rolls
Cranberry Sauce
Sweet Potatoes
And let’s not forget Pumpkin Pie for dessert.

I had stuffing and turkey for lunch on Friday, basically all the leftovers on Friday night dinner, and we had another Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday with the extended family including all the stuff I mentioned above. I was out of control.

As were my blood sugars. I do not think I had a reading below 300 most of the weekend. I just kept bolusing and bolusing all weekend long! It was awful as far as my bg goes but awesome for the taste buds.

Maybe I should call myself “LP” for Liquid Paper since all I do is CORRECT these days.

How was your holiday?
