Today is Ash Wednesday and I always like to "give up" something for lent. In the past I have given up soda, red meat, cigarettes, & swearing among others during this time and come Easter Sunday, I am a burger eating, diet pepsi guzzling, camel smoking, potty mouth. Lovely right?
Well I thought that I would try this year to give up something and stick with giving it up throughout the rest of the year. Hopefully forever.
I am giving up the candy dishes in the office.
As of late I have been unwrapping bite sized chocolates all day long. Rolos, twix, kisses, and Hersey miniatures are always laying around and are always just an arms reach away. I with I had a camera phone so I can show you what it is like around here.
So far I have had some baby carrots when I started to crave the Cadbury chocolate eggs. And I have 3 bottles of water staring at me if the peanut M&M’s start calling me.
This is gonna be tough. Any suggestions??

Oh George, good for you!!! Those bite-sized candies are so dangerous, because "just one" won't hurt. But then it's too easy to "just one" all day long.
You can do this!! Each day it will get a little easier, until you get used to ignoring them. :)
Standard issue peanuts. I have a jar with me at my desk and break it out when I need a little something.
Highly recommended
chew sugar-free gum. there are now fruit flavored from Trident and Extra. eating peanuts and having splenda drinks
George, best of luck with that. I've always been challenged by candy dishes.
I'm with Chris, eating nuts tends to be more satisfying and less problematic than candies.
Keep blogging and tweeting about it. Well be your personal cheerleaders to encourage you through the end of the year.
You'll do great!

that's tough...
long time ago I started a fireball kick...because they last so long....LOL
A woman in my office has a large M&M jar. I walk past it 4-5 times a day. Each time, I eat one (just one), peanut M&M.
I have filled the one on my desk (for the kids really) with sugar-free mints, lifesavers, and butterscotches. At least it's sugar-free! :-)
I strategically moved the candy dish to the file cabinet outside the bathrooms.. I've seen people in the mens room not wash their hands so I get the mental gross-out going through my head. Also, the entire office knows I'm a diabetic, so if any of them caught me eating candy I'd never hear the end of it..
I will have to pick up some nuts to snack on. I like that idea. And BOB the visual on the dirty hand thing is helping BIG TIME!!! LOL
Sugar-free gum, water and lip balm. I hate eating something if my lips are all gunky and taste like raspberry. Good luck!
"One is too many, a thousand not enough" An addiction quote. I've found it to be true -- whether it's M&M's, peanuts or even sweet little grapes. Best not to even start that snacking routine.
Great thing to give up on G-Money. Totally doable. And yes, I'm a bit freaked by the dirty hands thing...
That bathroom comment was a gross but so true. Plenty of gum, nuts and mints...LOL
Shh, don't tell anyone but I chew a about 4 packs a gum a week...I know it's a lot but it kills my reese's craving.
Wishing you luck! When you decided to reach you hand in the candy dish think about all the grems that's crawling around it!

How in the world am I the first person to suggest BACON!!!
I will be praying for you. I know Lent is a tough challenge but you can do it! I gave up chocolate this time. I have never stuck with something the whole time until Easter, but I am determined to do it this Lent! Good luck!
