Breathless

There’s this pain that is stabbing me right in the middle of back. And it goes all the way into the front of my chest. With each breath is seems to sting just like the first time. Over and over.

My eyes feel droopy. I probably look just like Droopy at least that is how I feel. I keep thinking about my pillow. My covers. Nyquil and rest and yet, here I am at work. Staring at a computer screen with no idea how I got here.

There is a fog surrounding my brain today. I don’t know what to say when I answer the phones. I am not sure how to help anyone that calls. I am so sleepy and foggy. The back and chest thing is driving me nuts.

It makes me want to stop breathing. I can tell my breathing is shallow because of the pain. Maybe that explains the fogginess. Its lack of oxygen! Who knows.

I remember back when I smoked and how I would still have a cigarette even when feeling like this. I can’t even imagine doing that now.

I should go home.

I should stop breathing.

I have been reading your blog, mainly for the WW stuff but I enjoy all of your posts. I had a similar feeling in my back and chest some time ago. I would recommend a trip to the doc. I was diagnosed with pleurisy which is the doctors way of saying you have an inflammation around your lungs. Of course that is what I had. So an anti inflammatory and some steroids later I was golden. If indeed it is the same I know it hurts like crazy with every breath.

On to more happy thoughts Congrats on your weight loss progress! You are doing great.

I agree- at the very least you should be at home. I would greatly recommend seeing a doctor. It's never good when you want to stop breathing!

See a doc to make sure you don't have bronchitis or something. And go home. You're going to get everyone sick, but more importantly, you need to get better!

You won't consider using a neti pot for your sinuses? I could send you one! :D

George, that does not sound good at all. Maybe it's some kind of upper respiratory thing...I hope it's not too serious and you get some relief soon.
I used to smoke even when I had bronchitis (which was often, because i smoked!) but now, I can't imaginge how I ever managed that with a cold.

It sounds like you might have pleurisy. I had that several years ago. The way you described how you you feel is exactly how I felt then. Get to the doctor. They'll does you up with all kinds of drugs & some awesome pain pills. Hope you get better soon.

SuperG - Dude, you need to get your super self to a doctor, and pronto. You shouldn't have to deal with feeling so rotten!

I bailed out of work myself today, feeling like garbage. The fog you described was exactly how I felt. I found myself staring at the computer at work, thinking, "What am I doing again?" Normally, I'm wicked focused. Today? Pffft - was on the moon.

Get better soon, and let us know how you're doing. :D

George,
I am 2.5 weeks into this crud and it is not fun. I have had a round of zithromax, a round of amoxicillan and tonight got some erythromycin. My pcp says my lung are perfectly clear; chest xray shows nothing, but I feel like I have a golfball size glob of snot stuck in the back of my throat.
I get these coughing fits on the bus and everyone moves away from me.
I am not a happy camper and about to go crazy. Yes, I had a flu shot.

............just cuz I'm not feeling better doesn't mean you shouldn't - get well soon.

oh Landileigh said what I was going to say. Gallbladder. Sounds exactly like what my gallbladder felt like - back pain.

And the surprising statistic is that when you loose oodles of weight you are much more prone to have gallbladder attack following it. I lost 20lbs on WW and had my GB out 6 months later.
