Great vlog! I really appreciate your transparency. Yup, I've been there too and I think those 3 F's were what helped get me out of the dark place. I'm very blessed to have a strong faith and some amazing family and friends. Yet sometimes those blahs just come.
Hope your stupid cold goes away soon George!

P.S. I did my first vlog last week!!!

You left out farmaceuticals! My creative spelling is just for the sake of accentuating the alliteration. Seriously though, if anyone gets stuck in that valley for too long, meds (and counseling) can be lifesavers. They have been for me.

Feel better!

Windy - I am at work (with the slowest connection on the planet) and in the process of loading your vlog right now!

Lee Ann - Good point. Muy councelling came from my pastor once when my depression got really bad. I also have seen medication help tremendously.

FYI - I am feeling better. ;)

Thanks for this, I've been in that dark place lately and this was just the wake up call that I needed!
I'm glad you're feeling better!

George

You've got a great laugh. Thanks for the frankness (another f word). I hope you're fully on the mend soon.

Well George, I think that the F word that is one of your foundations, at least in my eyes, is funny. You have got to be one of the funniest guys that I have had the pleasure of crossing paths with (even if not in person....YET!)I find it so hard to believe that someone with so much humor in them could get to those deep dark places but I guess it happens. Well, hope you feel better and stsy away from the dark places.

Depression is something that I've dealt with also. Since I was about 17 it's been a off and on thing. I've never been "diagnosed" or given any meds, but those times in my life are made easier by my friends and my faith.
I understand what you mean about the comfort thing. It's werid, but true.
Oh, and the thing that always gets me through it is known that I've always gotten through it. I know that's weird. But after my first initial bout that I got through, that's how I've always looked at it.

That last bit reminded me of our car ride last year! Hehehehe.

Great vlog, G-money.

SuperG, your words really resonate for a lot of us. As far as depression goes, I've hit bouts with it, and I definitely think it comes with the diabetes territory.

But, like you said, you have to hit those emotional highs and lows to know what rocks. :D

Great vlog, George. Thank you for your candor on the topic of depression (and your candor in general, but mental health issues are still kinda taboo, unfortunately, and for a man to talk about depression and emotions and stuff is rare, so i have a lot of gratitude for this particular vlog you did).

I am on Lexapro and find that while it's not a cure-all for my depression (what is?), it helps, and I notice that when I am not on it, I notice a difference, as do those around me. I think diabetes and depression are definitely linked (well, they have been proven but my experience bears this out, as well), and even the highs/lows we go through as t1's can affect mood and make depression worse.

What is hardest for me, as a diabetic, is how debilitating it can be to be depressed and because self-care is so important with diabetes (and in general, but particularly with diabetes), and depression is like the evil little devil on my shoulder casting off my self-care habits, it's a struggle because it can make my diabetes worse which makes my depression worse which creates a vicious cycle.

I know what you mean about depression feeling comfortable somehow--I tend to cocoon up when I feel down and am having a bout of depression. Sometimes we want what is "normal" for us or familiar, even if it's not healthy and we're not particularly happy--there is a comfort there, and that is the allure and the danger, as well. We fear what we don't know and being without any depression is uncharted territory.

You are a man of eloquent words oh wise Ninjabetic! I couldn't have put it better if I had done it myself (and I consider my self an expert on the subject now ;) I also know how it feels to want to crawl into a little hole and stay there forever and shut everyone else out (that is how I get when I'm depressed). I agree with your F words and Lee Ann's as well. Do not be afraid of meds. . . they are my friend (he he he). But I do find that the real F word comes in handy to make depression go away even for a few minutes (LOL!!!) I am always here for you and I know EXACTLY what you are going through!!! I love you dude!

Great VLOG man.

Yes, I totally relate to the paralyzation that comes (for me) with depression.

It's like it is just easier to stay there and be sad than it is to pull up and out of it. I find that I have to get out of the house and people watch. That always helps me.

I know I'm late with this (have I mentioned my work blocks youtube, so I flag the posts and come back to them later (usually weekends?)), but I hope you're feeling better now.

I do think it is something we (people living with diabetes) need to talk about more, and more openly.

Hey great blog about Depression I would like to add this information Depression in physiology and medicine refers to a lowering, in particular a reduction in a particular biological variable or the function of an organ. It is in contrast to elevation.
