A New Blog on the Block

I wanted to share a brand new blog with all of you. (It is not “D” related but it is SuperG related!)

My very good friend (who is thought of as family) Lisa has just left for a Trip of a Lifetime. She has started a blog to post about her time away.

I will tell you that Lisa is one of the greatest, most loving people I know. I cannot count the number of times she has been there for me and my family.

When someone you love gets to do something amazing, you can’t help but want to tell all your friends about it!

So please check it out. She lurks here often, and listens to me talking about the OC often so she may recognize you if you comment.

I also told her I was going to let you all know about it! :)

P.S. Work has been so busy that I cannot post. I do not like it when work gets in the way of my blogging dammit! I used to get a smoke break, why can't I get a blog break?

After 14 hours of labor my wife gave birth to our son George Daniel.

When he was born I truly feel like life began. My life that is. Everything before that seems so pointless.

I remember the moment he was born I exploded into tears and hugged my wife. I was so happy I could hardly stand it. Then the doctor said, "It's a boy!"

What? A BOY!

I forgot that we were waiting to find out if we were having a son or daughter. At that time, it did not matter at all. All we wanted was to meet our first child.

It is weird to say but I would have never thought that I could love someone that I had just met. I instantly knew that I would die for this child. He comes first now. Everything I will ever do, I will keep him in mind and his well being. I will give up everything for my child.

And I was fine with that. It was OK. It was perfect.

I know that is not really the case but everything EVERYTHING changes when you become a parent. And from where I stand it has been all for the better.

Sure we struggle. Sure we worry. Sure we screw up as parents but all of these ups and downs are worth it because every lesson only strengthens my children for when they go out and live in the real world.

I called George this morning to wish him a happy birthday. He told me that his little sister made him breakfast in bed.

He said, "She woke me up early because she wanted to surprise me. It was cute."

I am a lucky guy. My kids are awesome.

Happy Birthday Son.

A Week Away

I spent all last week feeling sorry for myself which is why I was “away” for the most part. I did not want to have a week full of posts that were all me being down and depressed. I would hate to lose any readers to the blog due to my whiny complaints and depressed tones. I do not like to be a downer at all.

There is another side to the whole “secluded” thing. I did not want to feel better. I did not want to get over it. I wanted to wallow and wade in my own personal bog of eternal stench. There is a weird comfort that comes with being depressed. And I knew if I let you people know then you would cheer me up.

And there it is.

I realized that part of my problem was not being “here” online. This blog and all the blogs I read have become a very important part of my life and well being. When I let you know I am down I always get a “cheer up” comment or “You can do it!” word of encouragement. I know that when I feel supported I want to go out and help support others through their trials and tribulations.

And all of you that comment and let me know that you are here make such a world of difference. I wish I could bake all of you a (low carb) cookie or give you a hug or something. I just want you all to know how much you mean to me. Honestly.

I may not be clicking my heels together but I am feeling much more optimistic.

Thanks everyone!

A Tear for a Year of "Me and Master P"

It has been one year since Master P joined my crusade for better D control. It has been a bumpy ride at times but I love him.

In case you are wondering, Master P is my insulin pump. My medicinal life partner. I go no where without him, except for the shower, and the swimming pool. He hates water!

Anyhow, this 722 is ready to go the next level. I am hoping that some extra money will be coming my way soon so I can get me one of them there CGM's for this bad boy.

Master P keeps telling me, "MAN you do not even know the cool s*** I can do!" (he swears a lot) "Hook me up with one of those sexy CGM's with the curvy backside and step the h*** back because, Master P will be ready to kick the s*** out of high BG's! BOOYAH!"

I tell him to watch his mouth around the kids but he swears that all they hear is 3 beeps.

I trust him with my insulin delivery so I have to trust him on that one too.

I want to thank all of you who have offered advice and help with my pump especially at the beginning. The OC rocks!

Take That Diabetes!

About 4 months ago I told you all about my Eye Exam experience.

Well, this week I had my follow up appointment to check on a "concern" my ophthalmologist had with my right eye. Apparently a bleeding blood vessel was a little too close to the middle of my retina and she wanted to keep an eye on it.

So here I am. I walk in and once again, I see EMG (Eye Make-up Girl), the Pepto colored walls, and a waiting room full of people.

This time I at least got a good seat. Nice.

When the doc came into the room and gave me the drops (that stung like hell once again) I told her, "Please do not make me watch a video."

She laughed.

I didn't.

She looked at my chart.

"Mr. Simons, (Simmons! SIMMONS!) I see you are ready for an eye exam. Let's just do that now."

In my head I am thinking. "She wants to check my eyesight after she put in the drops? I will be considered legally blind!"

Surprisingly, it was fine and my prescription has stayed the same. I swear I heard a cheer from my pocketbook.

She left the room for a while as I sat there staring at the back of my lids.

Anyhow, most of you know what the exam is like. If not, remember back to when you were a kid frying ants with a magnifying glass. Now imagine that beam of light shining directly into your eye but get this, you just paid a gal with WAY too much eyeliner to have this done. There has to be a better way.

The doctor finishes and says, "Well, we will see you back in 6 months. The spot I was worried about has gotten better. Just keep your blood sugar stable (right) and things will hopefull get better."

Wow! I felt great! I was really freaked out the last time I was here and now things are much better! I feel like a Diabetic Ninja! or should I say....

NINJABETIC!
